Old Juba Bridge (South Sudan)

Weather…

The Old Juba Bridge is a steel girder bridge spanning the White Nile in Juba, South Sudan. Completed in 1973, it was built by the British firm Dorman Long. The bridge is 240 meters long and 8 meters wide, carrying two lanes of traffic. It served as the only road link between central Juba and the northern suburbs until the new Juba Bridge opened in 2022. During the Second Sudanese Civil War, the bridge was a strategic target and sustained damage from shelling. It was repaired in 2005 after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. The bridge's load capacity is limited to 30 tons, restricting heavy truck usage. In 2016, a major rehabilitation project replaced the deck. The bridge is a historic landmark and remains in use for local traffic and pedestrians.
