Fuerte de San Diego (Panama)

Weather…

Fort San Diego was a vital sea-facing battery located in the Casco Antiguo district of Panama City. Built as part of the massive defensive walls that surrounded the 'new' city after 1673, it was designed to repel any pirate attacks from the Pacific Ocean. The fort's location allowed its cannons to cover the main anchorage area and the entrance to the port. The walls of San Diego were part of a sophisticated military design that included moats, bastions, and curtain walls. While much of the city's walls were demolished in the late 19th century to allow for urban growth, sections of Fort San Diego remain as a testament to the city's fortified past. These stones stand as a reminder of a time when the threat of piracy dictated the very shape of Panama's capital.
