Hassan II Mosque (Morocco)

Weather…

The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is a monumental structure and one of the largest mosques in the world. Built to mark the 60th birthday of King Hassan II, it was completed in 1993 after six years of construction. The building is unique because part of its foundation rests directly over the Atlantic Ocean, symbolizing the Quranic verse that God's throne was built on water. The minaret, at 210 meters, is one of the tallest in the world and features a laser beam that points toward Mecca at night. The architecture blends Islamic tradition with cutting-edge technology, such as a heated floor and a remote-controlled retractable roof that can open the prayer hall in minutes. Over 10,000 artisans were involved in creating the fine marble work, plaster carvings, and wood decorations. As one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, it serves as an important cultural bridge.
