Surrounding Farmlands

A drive out into the Chaouia plain provides sweeping, peaceful views of agricultural Morocco.

Berrechid is located in the fertile Chaouia plain, approximately 40 kilometers south of Casablanca. In recent decades, the city has evolved from a purely agricultural settlement into one of Morocco's most important industrial centers. Historically, the region is closely linked to the Chaouia Berbers, who put up fierce resistance against French occupation in the early 20th century. Berrechid is nationally known for its large psychiatric hospital, the largest of its kind in North Africa and a significant part of the city's history. Economic dynamism is now driven by several industrial zones housing primarily food processing and automotive supply industries. Thanks to its location at the country's primary highway and railway junctions, the city serves as a logistical hub between northern and southern Morocco. Despite industrialization, agriculture in the surrounding areas, known for high cereal production, remains a major economic factor.
