Landmark
The Đurđevića Tara Bridge is an impressive concrete arch bridge over the Tara River in northern Montenegro. It was built between 1937 and 1940 according to plans by engineer Mijat Trojanović and was the largest bridge of its kind in Europe at the time of its completion. The bridge consists of five arches, the largest of which has a span of 116 meters, and rises 172 meters above the bottom of the Tara Canyon. During World War II, one of the arches was blown up in 1942 by Yugoslav partisans led by engineer Lazar Jauković to stop the advance of Italian troops. Lazar Jauković was later captured by the occupiers and executed on the bridge, which is commemorated today by a monument. After the war, the bridge was rebuilt in 1946 and is now a central landmark of the Durmitor National Park.

Visiting
The bridge is freely accessible as it carries a public road, allowing visitors to walk across and admire the Tara Canyon from above. It is an outdoor landmark, so visiting during daylight ensures the best views and safety.
Typical hours
The bridge is typically open 24 hours a day as a public road, but occasional maintenance may close it temporarily. In winter, be aware of icy conditions; visiting in daylight is recommended.

Photography is allowed from the bridge and nearby viewpoints; you can capture striking panoramas of the canyon. For the best shots, hike down to the canyon floor or use a drone (if permitted locally).
Time needed
Plan about 20-30 minutes to walk across the bridge and take photos. If you also explore the canyon viewpoints, allow an hour.

Getting there
Reach the bridge by car on the P4 road from Mojkovac (about 30 minutes) or from Žabljak (about 15 minutes). There is a small parking area near the bridge; follow signs for 'Đurđevića Tara most'.
Insider tip
Arrive early in the morning to avoid tourist crowds and capture the golden light over the canyon. Bring a wide-angle lens and a tripod for sharp photos of the arch.
