Mojkovac is a town in northern Montenegro, situated in the upper valley of the Tara River between the mountain massifs of Bjelasica and Sinjajevina. The town is historically significant for the Battle of Mojkovac in 1916, where Montenegrin forces successfully repelled an Austro-Hungarian offensive to allow the Serbian army to retreat during World War I. However, the region's history dates back to the medieval era, specifically to the site of Brskovo, which was one of the Balkans' most prominent silver mining centers in the 13th century. Today, Mojkovac serves as a vital gateway to the Biogradska Gora National Park and the Tara River Canyon, the latter being a UNESCO World Heritage site. The local economy has shifted from heavy industry and mining toward ecological tourism, timber processing, and high-altitude agriculture. The town is also a cultural hub, hosting the annual Mojkovac Film Autumn festival. Its geographical position makes it a good base for activities such as rafting, hiking, and exploring the unique biodiversity of the Montenegrin highlands.
