Africam Safari, located just outside the city of Puebla, gives a unique opportunity to witness wild animals in expansive, open-range habitats that closely resemble their native environments. Unlike a traditional zoo, visitors drive through various 'continents' in their own vehicles or on park buses, allowing for close but safe encounters with giraffes, rhinos, lions, and elephants. Founded in 1972 by Captain Carlos Camacho Espíritu, the park was a pioneer in the 'safari' concept in Mexico and remains a leader in wildlife conservation. The park is famous for its successful breeding programs for endangered species, including the northern white rhino and the Mexican gray wolf. In addition to the drive-through safari, the park features a walking area with bird aviaries, insectariums, and nocturnal animal exhibits. Africam Safari provides a thrilling and educational experience that emphasizes the majesty of nature and the urgent need to protect it.

Best season
Open all year round, but the dry season from November to April features clearer views and more active animals. In the rainy season vegetation is dense, and many young are visible.
Best time of day
The park opens early morning when animals are most active. Arrive at opening time to take advantage of the cooler hours and avoid crowds.
Etiquette
Stay in your vehicle for the entire drive and keep windows closed. Do not feed or touch the animals, and follow staff instructions.
What to bring
A camera with a zoom lens is excellent for photographing animals from the car. Bring plenty of water and snacks as the drive can take several hours.
Getting there
The park is about 30 km south of Puebla on the highway to Oaxaca. It can be reached by private car or using the park's own buses.
What to expect
On popular days there may be waiting times at the entrance. Plan for a full morning and enjoy the relaxed drive; the animals will certainly appear.
