Its name translates to 'olive trees', signifying the historical importance of olive cultivation in the region. The Parish Church of the Assumption is renowned for its interior cladding of local onyx marble, discovered in a nearby valley in the 1730s. The municipality also oversees the coastal resort of Marsalforn and the impressive salt pans at Qbajjar and Xwejni, some of which date back to Roman times and remain in active use for salt production. The landscape surrounding Żebbuġ is characterized by rugged cliffs and deep valleys that provide a sharp contrast to the azure sea. Despite the tourism influx in Marsalforn, the hilltop village of Żebbuġ has largely retained its traditional character and agricultural roots.
