St. Paul's Bay, known in Maltese as San Pawl il-Baħar, is a sprawling coastal town in northeastern Malta and the country's most populous locality. The bay's name honors the shipwreck of St. Paul the Apostle in 60 AD, an event traditionally credited with bringing Christianity to the Maltese Islands. The area is dotted with historical fortifications, most notably the Wignacourt Tower, built in 1610, which stands as the oldest surviving coastal watchtower commissioned by the Order of St. John. Once a quiet fishing village, the town has transformed into a major tourism hub that now encompasses the modern resort areas of Buġibba and Qawra. Archaeological remains, including megalithic temple ruins and Roman salt pans, provide evidence of the area's significance since antiquity. The bay features iconic views of St. Paul's Islands, featuring a large statue of the Apostle marking the site of the historic wreck. Despite extensive modern development, the waterfront maintains a maritime atmosphere and serves as a primary departure point for boat excursions to Comino's Blue Lagoon and Gozo.
