Sanap Cliffs (Malta)

Weather…

The Sanap Cliffs are a series of dramatic vertical limestone formations located on the southern coast of Gozo, near the village of Munxar. Rising approximately 120 meters above the Mediterranean Sea, these cliffs offer some of the most spectacular coastal vistas in the Maltese islands. Geologically, they consist of Upper Coralline Limestone, which was formed during the Miocene epoch around 10 to 12 million years ago. The area is a critical nesting site for seabirds, including the Scopoli's Shearwater and the Mediterranean Shearwater. Historically, the cliffs provided a natural defense for the island's southern flank against maritime threats. A paved coastal path allows visitors to experience the sheer drop and view the neighboring island of Comino and Malta in the distance. The region remains largely undeveloped, preserving its wild and rugged natural character.
