Blue Hole (Malta)

Weather…

The Blue Hole is an iconic geological formation located on the western coast of Gozo, within the Dwejra Marine Park. This natural sinkhole, carved into the ancient Lower Coralline Limestone, features a circular opening approximately 10 meters in diameter. At a depth of 7 meters, an underwater arch connects the pool to the open Mediterranean Sea, providing a dramatic passage for divers. Historically, it sat in the shadow of the Azure Window until that structure's collapse on March 8, 2017. The site provides a complex underwater topography, including a vertical chimney and several caverns reaching depths of 15 to 25 meters. Its crystal-clear waters and unique structural features make it one of the most celebrated diving destinations in Europe. The surrounding cliffs date back approximately 22 to 30 million years, showcasing the island's Miocene epoch history.
