San Lawrenz is a quiet village located in western Gozo, situated on a high plateau and renowned for its traditional limestone architecture. The village was established as an independent parish in the late 19th century, having previously been part of the jurisdiction of Għarb. Its parish church, dedicated to Saint Lawrence, was designed in a neoclassical style and completed in 1893. Geographically, San Lawrenz encompasses the Dwejra area, one of Malta's most significant geological sites and the former location of the iconic Azure Window. Key natural features remaining today include Fungus Rock and the Inland Sea, both of which are strictly protected natural monuments. Fungus Rock was historically significant to the Knights of St. John, who guarded it under penalty of death to protect a unique medicinal plant. The village itself maintains an authentic atmosphere and is regarded as one of the most peaceful residential areas on the island.
