Silum is a pretty alpine settlement on a hill above the municipality of Triesenberg, located at an altitude of about 1,500 meters. The place is characterized by traditional Walser buildings and has served as grazing land for local alpine farming for centuries. Geographically, Silum lies at the transition between the Rhine Valley and the Samina Valley, offering a unique view in both directions. The history of Silum is closely linked to the settlement by the Walser people in the 13th and 14th centuries, who made the steep terrain usable through terracing and clearing. The architecture consists primarily of sun-drenched wooden houses, some of which are used as holiday accommodation or seasonal huts. A special feature is the peace and seclusion, as Silum lies away from the major tourist flows. Hikers appreciate the area for its well-marked trails leading, among other places, to Kulm or Steg. The flora is particularly magnificent in early summer when the mountain meadows are in full bloom. Silum preserves the image of an intact, traditional cultural landscape.
