The Holy Cross Chapel on the Rofenberg in Eschen is one of Liechtenstein's most significant historical chapels and a site of high spiritual and cultural relevance. The current structure was built in 1546 in late Gothic style and later Baroque elements were added, standing on the foundations of an even older cult site. Particularly noteworthy are the artistic wall paintings and the late Gothic winged altar, considered one of the country's most valuable sacred artworks. For centuries, the chapel was an important pilgrimage site for the faithful of the surrounding area and also served as a location for public assemblies and court days. Its position on a hill provides a broad view over the Unterland and highlights its prominent standing in the landscape. Careful restorations have helped preserve the building's original character and bring out the fine details of its architecture. Today, it is a protected cultural monument and is frequently used for festive services and cultural events.
