Mauren Lake
Mauren Lake, regionally known as the Egelsee, is an idyllic still water body on the border between Liechtenstein and Austria. This biotope is one of the region's most valuable nature reserves and hosts an exceptional diversity of amphibians and aquatic plants. The lake's formation dates back to the post-glacial shaping of the Rhine Valley, and today it is considered a relic of a once much more extensive moorland landscape. Surrounded by reed beds and extensively managed meadows, the lake features a tranquil retreat for recreation seekers and nature observers. A hiking trail circles the water, providing informational boards about the local flora and fauna, including rare orchid species and dragonflies. The lake plays a central role in the cross-border nature conservation project between Mauren and the municipality of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg. The stillness of the location is only interrupted by the song of waterfowl, making it a jewel for all who seek undisturbed nature away from residential areas.
