The Gutenberg district in Balzers surrounds the prominent castle hill, atop which Gutenberg Castle stands as one of Liechtenstein's most significant landmarks. The history of this area dates back to the Stone Age, as evidenced by archaeological finds of Neolithic settlements and Bronze Age idols now displayed in the National Museum in Vaduz. The district itself is shaped by its proximity to the castle and its photogenic embedding in the surrounding vineyards, making it one of the most exclusive residential areas in the community. The medieval castle was rebuilt in a historicist style in the early 20th century and now serves as a cultural monument and event venue. Below the hill are historical residences and public buildings that form the transition to modern Balzers. The Gutenberg quarter is also a major attraction for tourists, providing access to the castle and the numerous hiking trails at the foot of the Luzisteig. The combination of millennia-old settlement history and the striking vertical presence of the castle lends this area a unique urban quality.
