Weather…

The Börzsöny Mountains are a volcanic range in northern Hungary, bordered to the south by the scenic Danube Bend. The mountains were formed approximately 15 to 18 million years ago by a massive volcano whose ancient caldera remains recognizable in the local geomorphology today. The highest peak is Csóványos at 938 meters, featuring a lookout tower from which the High Tatra mountains in Slovakia can be seen on clear days. A large portion of the range belongs to the Danube-Ipoly National Park and is characterized by nearly untouched, dense oak and beech forests. The region is exceptionally rich in water, hosting over 300 springs and numerous mountain streams. Historically, the area was a center for mining precious metals, particularly around Nagybörzsöny, as evidenced by abandoned shafts. Today, Börzsöny is a favorite destination for hikers seeking solitude and for enthusiasts of forest narrow-gauge railways, such as the one in Királyrét.
