Vác is a historic episcopal city situated on the left bank of the Danube, approximately 35 kilometers north of Budapest, with a heritage spanning over a millennium. The town is famous for its harmonious Baroque cityscape, largely shaped in the 18th century under the patronage of Bishop Christoph Anton von Migazzi. The most prominent landmark is the Vác Cathedral, a Late Baroque-Neoclassical masterpiece built between 1761 and 1777, featuring a grand dome and frescoes by Franz Anton Maulbertsch. Vác also hosts the only Triumphal Arch in Hungary, erected in 1764 to welcome Empress Maria Theresa. In 1994, the town gained global scientific fame when 265 naturally mummified remains from the 18th century were discovered in the crypt of the Dominican Church. The scenic Main Square (Március 15. tér) and the riverside promenade make Vác a vital cultural destination within the Danube Bend, blending history with natural beauty.
