Stendal Zoo (Germany)

Weather…

Stendal Zoo (Tiergarten Stendal) in Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1952 and covers an area of approximately six hectares on the edge of the idyllic Stadtsee lake. It currently houses around 450 animals representing about 70 different species, with a particular focus on native wildlife and endangered domestic breeds. Residents include brown bears and wolves, as well as more exotic species like flamingos, llamas, and various monkeys. The zoo is especially proud of its successful breeding programs for ancient Germanic livestock breeds, which contribute significantly to the preservation of biological diversity. The park-like grounds with their mature trees offer a relaxed atmosphere for visitors of all ages. A large adventure playground and a petting zoo make the facility particularly attractive to families. Located within the Hanseatic city of Stendal, it is a vital part of the regional leisure landscape and is actively involved in environmental education. Annual events like the Zoo Festival strengthen the bond between the local community and the institution.
