Located on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains, Sangerhausen is globally renowned for the Europa-Rosarium, the largest and most significant rose collection in the world. Boasting over 8,000 rose species and varieties, the park delivers an unparalleled explosion of color and fragrance, particularly during the early summer blooms. Beyond its botanical wonders, this thousand-year-old town features a deep dive into industrial history. For centuries, copper mining shaped the region, a legacy you can explore at the Röhrigschacht Wettelrode exhibition mine. Visitors can descend deep underground on an original miner's train to experience the harsh realities of historical mining firsthand. The historic old town features remarkable medieval architecture, including the Romanesque St. Ulrich Church and the striking Renaissance town hall. Additionally, the Spengler Museum draws visitors with an almost completely preserved Ice Age mammoth skeleton. Wandering through the winding cobblestone alleys and relaxing in cozy local cafes perfectly rounds out a visit to this captivating town.

The day begins in the historic heart of Sangerhausen at the Old Town Hall and St. James Church. After viewing the Renaissance castle, dive into prehistory at the Spengler Museum. The afternoon is spent amidst the fragrance and colors of the world-famous Rosarium, before concluding the walk at the Romanesque St. Ulrich Church.
This bike tour combines city highlights with an excursion to Moltkewarte. After visiting the Rosarium, the route leads uphill to the observation tower for magnificent views. Back in town, the castle, museum, and St. Ulrich Church round off the day.
By car, you can easily reach the Röhrigschacht Adventure Mine just outside town, where you can dive deep into mining traditions. Spend the rest of the day in the city center between the historic old town and the expansive Europa Rosarium.
