Lutherstadt Wittenberg (Germany)

Weather…

Wittenberg, officially known as Lutherstadt Wittenberg, is the spiritual heart of the Reformation and is inextricably linked to the lives of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. On October 31, 1517, Luther is said to have nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church, triggering a global religious and social transformation. Today, the city is home to four UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Luther House, the Melanchthon House, the Town Church, and the Castle Church. Luther preached regularly in the Town Church of St. Mary, which also houses the famous Reformation Altar created by Lucas Cranach the Elder. During the 16th century, Wittenberg was one of Europe's most prominent university towns, with its intellectual influence reaching far beyond the borders of the Holy Roman Empire. The historic old town, with its meticulously restored townhouses, Renaissance architecture, and traditional 'Röhrwasser' fountains, invites visitors to step back into the era of the Reformation. Today, the city remains a key destination for international tourism and theological research.
