Aschersleben holds the distinguished title of being the oldest recorded town in Saxony-Anhalt, with its origins tracing back to the year 753. Its immensely well-preserved medieval city wall is a standout attraction, featuring imposing structures like the Johannisturm and the Rabenturm that still guard the historic center. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the impressive Grauer Hof, one of the oldest secular buildings in the region, and the striking St. Stephani church. Recently, the town has embraced an incredibly green identity, significantly enhanced by the sprawling parks and beautifully designed gardens created for the 2010 State Garden Show, especially the popular Herrenbreite park. A highly unusual yet fascinating stop is the Kriminalpanoptikum, a unique museum set in a former prison detailing the history of criminal justice. Blending monumental medieval fortifications with expansive, bustling floral landscapes, Aschersleben gives visitors a visually memorable journey through over a millennium of continuous urban history.
