Weather…

Baldeneysee is the largest of the six reservoirs on the Ruhr River and is located in the scenic southern part of the city of Essen. Built between 1931 and 1933, it was originally designed as a sedimentation basin for the Ruhr to improve water quality for the region's drinking supply through biological self-purification. Today, the lake serves primarily as a major recreational area and a hub for water sports, hosting numerous sailing regattas and national rowing competitions each year. On the northern shore stands Villa Hügel, the former residence of the Krupp industrialist family, which provides a sweeping view across the water and surrounding forests. A 14-kilometer circular path surrounds the lake, heavily used by cyclists, inline skaters, and hikers. Despite its industrial origins, the lake has evolved into a valuable habitat for rare waterfowl, while the 'White Fleet' excursion boats provide regular ferry services between the districts of Werden and Kupferdreh.
