Strausberg, widely recognized as the “green city on the lake,” features a scenic retreat located just east of Berlin. The town borders the pristine waters of the Straussee and is enveloped by extensive pine forests. The historic center retains a distinct medieval atmosphere, anchored by the early Gothic architecture of the Marienkirche. Significant stretches of the original, massive fieldstone town wall remain intact, tracing the boundaries of the old settlement. The town's most unusual technical attraction is the Strausseefähre, an electric cable ferry that has been silently gliding across the lake since 1894, making it a rare piece of European transit history. In addition to its natural and medieval appeal, Strausberg has deep military and aviation roots. The local airfield supports sports aviation and a museum, while the town itself serves as a major operational command center for the German Armed Forces. Extensive lakeside trails provide excellent conditions for uninterrupted nature walks.
