Königs Wusterhausen holds a distinctive position in both Prussian royal history and the evolution of German broadcasting. At the center lies the Königs Wusterhausen Castle, the favored hunting lodge of King Frederick William I, known as the Soldier King. It was within these walls that he hosted his famous Tobacco Collegium, conducting state affairs in an informal, smoke-filled environment far removed from traditional court etiquette. Beyond the historic castle grounds, the town skyline is marked by the antennas of the Funkerberg. This hill is recognized as the cradle of German radio, where the country's first public radio broadcast was transmitted in 1920. The local transmitter museum now preserves the massive historical broadcasting equipment. Waterways also define the urban layout; the intersection of the Dahme River and the Notte Canal turns the town into a busy hub for houseboats and kayakers heading out into the expansive Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park.
