Wannsee Conference Memorial (Germany)

Weather…

The House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial and Educational Site commemorates the historical meeting of high-ranking Nazi officials on January 20, 1942, where the systematic deportation and murder of European Jews, the so-called 'Final Solution', was coordinated. The villa itself was built in 1915 in a neoclassical style as a private residence for industrialist Ernst Marlier, picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Wannsee. In the 1940s, it served as an SS guest house before being opened as a memorial in 1992 on the 50th anniversary of the conference. The permanent exhibition meticulously documents the planning and execution of the Holocaust, as well as the roles of the participating institutions and individuals. Visitors can view the original protocols and documents that testify to the bureaucratic precision behind the genocide. The site juxtaposes the idyllic architecture of a suburban Berlin villa with the study of the darkest chapters of German history, serving today as a vital center for historical education and remembrance.
