Cabrera is a welcoming coastal town in the María Trinidad Sánchez province on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Originally founded in 1891, the settlement was previously known as Tres Amarras before being renamed in honor of General José Cabrera. The town is considered one of the most attractive locations in the country for affluent expatriates and tourists seeking tranquility away from the crowds. The surrounding area is known for its dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and luxury villas. Outstanding natural monuments include Laguna Dudú, a deep limestone sinkhole with crystal blue water, and the Cabo Francés Viejo National Park. The local economy relies on agriculture, particularly cattle ranching and coconut cultivation, as well as a high-end real estate market. Despite its popularity, Cabrera maintains a relaxed atmosphere and has spectacular views of the Atlantic, making it a jewel on the Dominican north coast.
