North Battleford is located in west-central Saskatchewan on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, opposite the historic town of Battleford. The city was founded in 1905 when the Canadian Northern Railway constructed its main line north of the river, bypassing the older settlement of Battleford. This strategic location led to rapid growth, and North Battleford was officially incorporated as a city in 1913. It is home to the Allen Sapp Gallery, which showcases the globally recognized work of the eponymous Cree artist. Another major attraction is the Western Development Museum, featuring a life-sized outdoor heritage village depicting life in the 1920s. Nearby Fort Battleford National Historic Site preserves a former North-West Mounted Police post that played a pivotal role during the North-West Resistance of 1885. Today, the city serves as a primary retail and service center for the northwestern region of the province.
