Halton Hills is a municipality in Ontario's Halton Region, established in 1974 through the amalgamation of Georgetown, Acton, and the Township of Esquesing. The community is characterized by its memorable location along the Niagara Escarpment, much of which is protected as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Georgetown, the largest urban center, was founded in 1823 and grew into a vital hub for paper and textile manufacturing. Acton gained fame in the 19th century as 'Leathertown,' housing one of the British Empire's largest tanneries. Halton Hills successfully balances its expanding residential neighborhoods with its strong rural and agricultural heritage. The municipality gives premier outdoor recreation through the Bruce Trail, Canada’s longest footpath, and natural havens like the Silver Creek Conservation Area. Culturally, the Williams Mill Visual Arts Centre in Glen Williams is a cornerstone of the local arts community. Its proximity to Highway 401 makes it a highly desirable residential area for those commuting within the Greater Toronto Area.
