Piria's Castle (Castillo de Piria) is a late 19th-century castle located near the city of Piriápolis in the Maldonado Department. It was built in 1897 by the multifaceted Uruguayan businessman Francisco Piria to serve as his private residence. The castle is a notable example of eclectic architecture, with strong influences from Italian Renaissance villas and medieval castles. It was constructed using granite from the nearby quarries and adorned with imported materials such as Italian marble and French ceramic tiles. Piria, an alchemist and visionary, is said to have designed the castle based on alchemical principles, which are reflected in various symbols and the layout of the rooms. After Piria's death in 1933, the castle was converted into a museum. Today, it houses a collection of Piria's personal belongings, furniture, and artwork, offering a glimpse into the life of this eccentric founder of Piriápolis.
