Jaiama-Sewafe, often called simply Jaiama, is a smaller town in Kono District in Sierra Leone's Eastern Province, set in Sandor chiefdom at the meeting point of the inland cocoa and rice belts and the diamond fields along the Sewa River. The settlement grew up as a traditional Mende-Kono trading village and gained importance from the 1950s onward with the boom in alluvial diamond mining. Today, many residents are smallholder farmers growing rice, cassava, groundnuts, and yams, while others are artisanal miners working on licensed deals with diamond dealers in Koidu, Bo, and Freetown. Jaiama-Sewafe has a primary school, a secondary school, a small clinic, several churches and mosques, and a market square that hosts traders from Tongo, Boajibu, and Yengema twice a week. The town is also a focal point of traditional Mende and Kono ceremonies, with members of the Poro and Sande secret societies holding their initiation rites here.
