Dragomirna Monastery (Romania)

Weather…

Dragomirna Monastery was built in the early 17th century, between 1602 and 1609, by Metropolitan Anastasie Crimca. Its architecture stands out among Moldavian churches due to its unprecedented height and slender proportions, which create a striking vertical profile. The exterior is adorned with a unique stone carving shaped like a twisted rope, symbolizing the unity of the Orthodox faith. To protect the site from raids, massive defensive walls and corner towers were added in 1627, giving the monastery a fortress-like appearance. Inside, the complex houses a significant museum containing beautifully illuminated manuscripts and rare liturgical objects crafted by Crimca and his school. Located near Suceava in a serene forest setting, the monastery is a masterpiece of late medieval art. It remains an active spiritual center and a key destination for those exploring the cultural heritage of the Bucovina region.
