Pelișor Castle (Romania)

Weather…

Pelișor Castle in Sinaia was built between 1899 and 1902 by order of King Carol I as a residence for his heirs, the future King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. Designed by the Czech architect Karel Liman in the Art Nouveau style, the castle features a unique aesthetic that distinguishes it from the neighboring Neo-Renaissance Peles Castle. Queen Marie significantly influenced the interior design, blending modern European trends with traditional Romanian motifs and Byzantine elements. The most famous area is the "Golden Room," featuring walls covered in gilded thistle leaves, the national symbol of Scotland, the Queen's birthplace. Pelișor held great emotional significance for the royal family; it was here that Queen Marie passed away in 1938. The castle contains 99 rooms and is part of the larger royal complex in the Carpathian Mountains. Today, it serves as a museum, offering visitors a detailed look into the private life and refined artistic tastes of the Romanian monarchs during the early 20th century.
