Peleș Castle (Romania)

Weather…

Peleș Castle in Sinaia is widely regarded as one of the most remarkable castles in Europe, originally serving as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family. It was constructed between 1873 and 1914 at the behest of King Carol I, who was captivated by the scenic Carpathian scenery. The architectural style is a masterful blend of German Neo-Renaissance with Baroque and Rococo influences. The castle features 160 rooms adorned with priceless artworks, intricate walnut wood carvings, and Murano glass chandeliers. Technologically, Peleș was far ahead of its time, being the first European castle to be fully equipped with electric power and central heating. The royal estate also encompasses the smaller Pelișor Castle and several auxiliary buildings like the Foișor hunting lodge. Beyond its role as a private retreat, Peleș served as a diplomatic venue for significant state visits. Today, it functions as a national museum, housing one of the region's most important collections of arms and armor, consisting of over 4,000 pieces.
