A RO-ALERT message was issued in Câmpina to warn residents of a bear's presence near the "Vasile Lascăr" Police Training School. Authorities urged the public to be cautious and deployed intervention teams to ensure the safety of the area.
Alexandru "Alecu" Banu, a legend of football in Câmpina who dedicated his entire life to the sport, has passed away. The local community and sports journalists paid their last respects to the man known as the "Lord" of the city's football.
Câmpina is historically renowned as a cornerstone of the Romanian oil industry, having hosted the first modern refinery in the country, Steaua Română, established in 1895. Beyond its industrial heritage, the city is famous for its exceptional climate, holding the national record for the highest number of sunny days per year. Visitors are drawn to the Iulia Hasdeu Castle, a unique 'spiritist temple' built by the scholar Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu in memory of his daughter, following plans he claimed to receive during séances. The city also served as a peaceful retreat for Romania's greatest painter, Nicolae Grigorescu, whose memorial house preserves the atmosphere where he spent his final years. Today, Câmpina serves as a gateway to the Prahova Valley, offering a mix of cultural landmarks and a mild, revitalizing atmosphere that sets it apart from more humid mountain towns nearby.
