Reșița is the administrative center of Caraș-Severin County and is considered the oldest cradle of heavy industry in Romania. Situated in the Banat Mountains along the Bârzava River, its development is inextricably linked to the founding of the first ironworks in 1771 under Habsburg rule. Reșița became a hub for steam locomotive manufacturing, with the first such engine in Southeastern Europe being built here. The urban landscape is defined by its industrial past, which is also reflected in the Steam Locomotive Museum, an open-air exhibition housing a unique collection. Despite the economic shifts after 1989, the city remains an important industrial site, particularly in metallurgy and machine building. Geographically, Reșița is surrounded by forested mountains and serves as a gateway to the Semenic-Cheile Carașului National Park, making it attractive for tourism.
