Șoldănești is a town located in northeastern Moldova, serving as the administrative headquarters of the Șoldănești District. Situated in the scenic valley of the Ciorna River, the town's growth was significantly influenced by the construction of the Rîbnița-Bălți railway line in the late 19th century, which established it as a vital transportation hub. This connectivity spurred the establishment of industrial and commercial enterprises, primarily focused on the agricultural sector. The area surrounding Șoldănești is rich in historical and natural sites, including ancient monasteries and protected forest reserves. During the Soviet period, the town was a notable center for wine production and grain processing. A unique Cold War landmark near the town is the massive, unfinished Soviet military bunker known as 'Object 1180,' intended to be a command center. Today, Șoldănești functions as a quiet provincial center, providing essential educational and administrative services to the surrounding region.
