Għarb is situated in the far west of Gozo and stands as one of the oldest and most authentic villages in the Maltese archipelago. Its name is derived from the Arabic word for 'west', directly reflecting its geographical position. Għarb is historically renowned for its artisanal heritage, particularly blacksmithing and the production of traditional Gozo knives. The central square is dominated by the Baroque Parish Church of the Visitation, constructed in the early 18th century and noted for its architectural elegance. Just outside the village core lies the Ta' Pinu Basilica, Malta's most significant national shrine and pilgrimage site, established following a Marian apparition in 1883. The village also houses the Għarb Folklore Museum, located in a historic townhouse, which provides extensive insight into traditional rural life and agriculture. The surrounding topography is defined by fertile valleys and the rugged limestone cliffs of the western coastline.
