St. Florin Cathedral (Liechtenstein)

Weather…

St. Florin Cathedral in Vaduz is the preeminent Roman Catholic church in Liechtenstein and the seat of the Archdiocese of Vaduz. This neo-Gothic structure was built between 1869 and 1873 based on plans by the renowned Viennese architect Friedrich von Schmidt, who also designed the Vienna City Hall. Originally constructed as a parish church, it was elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1997 by Pope John Paul II. The facade is characterized by its tall western tower and the use of local limestone, giving the building a monumental presence. Inside, visitors can find exquisite stained-glass windows and the Princely Burial Vault, the final resting place for members of the ruling House of Liechtenstein. Of particular note is the organ by the Rheinberger company, which is frequently used for high-profile concerts. The cathedral serves as the spiritual heart of the nation and is a central feature of the Vaduz government district.
