Mosonmagyaróvár was formed in 1939 through the merger of Magyaróvár and Moson and is located near the Austrian and Slovakian borders at the meeting point of the Lajta and Mosoni-Danube rivers. The city is a major educational hub; its faculty of agriculture was founded in 1818 by Prince Albert Casimir, making it one of the oldest higher education institutions for agriculture in the world. A key landmark is the Castle of Magyaróvár, built on the Roman foundations of the military station Ad Flexum. Today, Mosonmagyaróvár is also a recognized spa town, as its thermal water is exceptionally rich in minerals and highly effective for treating musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. The city's economy is dynamic, benefiting from its strategic location along the M1 motorway between Vienna and Budapest. The Baroque town center, featuring numerous bridges over the Lajta river branches, has a unique atmosphere. The city also plays a significant role in cross-border trade and international tourism.
