Győr is the Hungarian football champion
The football team from Győr has won its fifth championship title after winning their match against Kisvárda. This is a significant success for the club, which was on the verge of dissolution a few years ago.
Győr is known as the 'city of waters' as it lies at the confluence of the Danube, Rába, and Rábca rivers. Due to its strategic location, it was inhabited as early as Roman times under the name Arrabona. The Baroque city center is one of Hungary's most beautiful monumental ensembles, where Káptalandomb and the Bishop's Castle rise above the cityscape. The modern history of the city is defined by the automotive industry, particularly the presence of the Audi factory, which has made it one of the country's wealthiest and most dynamically developing settlements. Its cultural life is also animated, with the Győr Ballet and the National Theater being institutions of national renown. Széchenyi Square and the Basilica are the religious and community centers of the city. Today, Győr is an important educational and economic hub in the middle of the 'golden triangle' between Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. Győr remained Hungary's Audi-Hungaria-anchored automotive hub in 2024-2025, with continued expansion of electric powertrain production. Bence Pintér (Fidesz) won the mayoralty in 2024.
