Martonvásár is renowned for the magnificent Brunszvik Castle, originally built in Baroque style and later remodeled in Neo-Gothic Tudor style during the 1870s. The castle is famously connected to Ludwig van Beethoven, who visited the Brunszvik family several times between 1800 and 1806 and composed some of his masterpieces here. Today, the castle houses a Beethoven Memorial Museum as well as the Agricultural Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The building is surrounded by a 70-hectare English landscape park, which is a protected nature reserve featuring rare tree species and an artificial lake. On the lake's central island, open-air concerts are regularly held during the summer, predominantly featuring Beethoven's works. The Brunszvik family was also significant in Hungarian educational history, as Teréz Brunszvik founded the first kindergarten in Hungary in 1828. Located between Budapest and Lake Velence, Martonvásár is a popular destination for both cultural and nature-focused day trips.
