Csákvár Esterházy Palace (Hungary)

Weather…

The Esterházy Mansion in Csákvár is a premier example of Neoclassical architecture in central Hungary, located near the Vértes Mountains. Originally a Baroque hunting lodge from the late 1700s, it was extensively rebuilt between 1823 and 1825 by French architect Charles Moreau for Count Miklós Esterházy. The building is characterized by its grand portico with classical columns and a symmetrical, dignified facade. According to local lore, the mansion was designed to have 365 windows, representing each day of the year. The estate is surrounded by a vast 40-hectare English landscape park, which historically featured exotic trees, artificial lakes, and decorative pavilions. Following World War II, the mansion was repurposed as a hospital and sanatorium, a function it still serves today. Despite interior modifications for medical use, the building's exterior remains a majestic reminder of the Esterházy family's influence and the architectural refinement of the 19th century.
