The Goethe House in Frankfurt am Main is the birthplace of the renowned German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who was born here in 1749. Located on the street Großer Hirschgraben, the building was originally a late Baroque bourgeois residence where Goethe spent his childhood and youth. It was within these walls that he composed his first major works, including the novel "The Sorrows of Young Werther" and the early versions of his masterpiece "Faust." During World War II, the house was almost entirely destroyed by an air raid in 1944, but it was meticulously reconstructed between 1947 and 1951 according to original plans. The interior features valuable furniture, paintings, and everyday objects belonging to the Goethe family, providing an authentic glimpse into 18th-century domestic life. Adjacent to the residence is the Frankfurt Goethe Museum, which displays an extensive collection of manuscripts and artworks from the poet's era. The house and museum serve as central monuments to German literary history, drawing visitors from across the globe. The estate reflects the prosperity and intellectual sophistication of the Frankfurt bourgeoisie of that time.
