Neu-Isenburg, located immediately south of Frankfurt, has a very special founding history. In 1699, French Huguenots found refuge here, laying the foundation for the lively city it is today. The original checkerboard layout of the old center, with the market square and the characteristic single-story half-timbered houses, is clearly visible to this day. The Huguenot and Waldensian Museum in the old town hall tells in detail about the craftsmanship of the settlers at the time, which once made Neu-Isenburg a center for button and lace production. Today, the city is known for its cultural diversity and a rich range of events, especially in the widely known Hugenottenhalle, which regularly hosts concerts and theater performances. Culinary-wise, Neu-Isenburg has also made a name for itself: in the rustic apple wine taverns of the old town, you can enjoy the Hessian national drink from the traditional Bembel jug together with Handkäs (local cheese) or green sauce.
