Triberg Waterfalls (Germany)

Weather…

With a total drop of 163 meters, the Triberg Waterfalls are among the highest and most famous in Germany. Located in the heart of the High Black Forest, the Gutach River plunges over granite rocks in seven distinct tiers into the Triberg basin. The cascades are accessible year-round and offer an especially impressive natural spectacle after heavy rainfall or during the snowmelt. The site was developed for tourism as early as 1884 and equipped with electric lighting, which today provides a mystical atmosphere in the evenings. Various hiking trails, such as the Cascade Trail or the Culture Trail, lead visitors directly to the thundering waters and offer numerous viewing platforms. The area is also well-known for its large squirrel population, which can often be observed in close proximity to the paths. Geologically, the waterfalls were formed by the uplifting of the Black Forest and the erosion of the hard granite bedrock.
