Lake
Titisee is a glacial lake located in the southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. It lies at an elevation of 845 meters and covers an area of approximately 1.3 square kilometers, with a maximum depth of around 40 meters. The lake is the centerpiece of the renowned spa resort Titisee-Neustadt and serves as an internationally famous tourist destination. Geologically, it is a proglacial lake formed during the last ice age (Würm) by the retreating Feldberg glacier. Parts of the shoreline are kept in their natural state and are protected to preserve the local ecological balance. The lake is not only used for water sports and recreational boat tours but also acts as a vital water reservoir for the region. The surrounding area is characterized by dense coniferous forests and numerous hiking trails that offer expansive views of the nearby Feldberg, the highest mountain in the Black Forest. Getting there
This famous natural glacial lake in the Black Forest is highly accessible by car or via the local train station in Titisee-Neustadt. Well-maintained paved roads lead directly into the bustling main resort area.
Best season
Summer is incredibly popular for outdoor bathing and boating in the natural lake. Winter is also visually magical when the surrounding Black Forest is covered in snow, though most water activities are naturally paused.
Terrain & paths
The main promenade in the spa town is completely flat and solidly paved, making it accessible to everyone. The hiking trails circling the lake feature well-maintained, packed dirt paths with minimal elevation gain.
What to bring
In summer, bring swimwear and a towel if you plan to enjoy the bathing areas. For simply walking the perimeter trail, comfortable walking shoes and a light jacket for unpredictable mountain weather are sufficient.

The town provides several large, clearly designated paid parking lots and garages designed to handle high volumes of tourists. It is highly recommended to use these specific areas as street parking is strictly regulated.
Safety
When bathing, stick to the officially designated swimming zones and be consistently aware of heavy boat traffic on the water. In winter, never walk on the ice unless local authorities have formally declared it safe.
