The Rutenfest is Ravensburg's traditional heritage and children's festival and one of the oldest festivals in Upper Swabia. Every July, visitors enjoy historical parades, round dances, drummer groups and a large funfair.
Known as the historic city of towers and gates, Ravensburg looks back on a glorious past as a free imperial city and a powerful trading centre in Upper Swabia. The impressive skyline is still dominated by medieval structures today, most notably the slender Blaserturm and the massive, white Mehlsack tower. From the latter's viewing platform, you can enjoy a dramatic panoramic view over the roofs of the old town all the way to Lake Constance and the Alps. The spacious Marienplatz forms the pulsating centre of the city; here, locals and guests gather in cosy street cafés to watch the hustle and bustle against the backdrop of magnificent patrician houses. The city gained worldwide fame through the games publisher of the same name, recognizable by its blue triangle logo. In the Museum Ravensburger, located in the heart of the old town, families and gaming fans can dive interactively into the fascinating history of board games and puzzles. Culturally, the art museum and the atmospheric summer Rutenfest offer further highlights, while the surrounding hilly landscape invites visitors to enjoy relaxed cycling and hiking tours in the Schussen valley.
