Meidum Pyramid (Egypt)

Weather…

The Pyramid of Meidum, located about 100 kilometers south of Cairo, is one of the most intriguing monuments reflecting the evolution of Egyptian pyramid construction. Originally designed as a step pyramid, it was later modified into a true pyramid by filling in the steps with limestone casing. Historical evidence suggests the project was likely initiated by King Huni, the last pharaoh of the Third Dynasty, and completed by Sneferu, the founder of the Fourth Dynasty. The outer casing suffered a catastrophic structural failure in antiquity, leaving behind the massive central core that now resembles a three-tiered tower rising above the desert sands. The surrounding necropolis contains significant mastaba tombs, including that of Prince Nefermaat, renowned for its high-quality reliefs and the famous 'Meidum Geese' painting. Meidum marks the architectural transition from the Step Pyramid of Djoser to the Great Pyramids of Giza, showcasing the experimental nature of early Egyptian engineering.
