Water temperature…
Petit Bara is a small settlement located on the edge of the Grand Bara desert in the Ali Sabieh Region of Djibouti. Its name, meaning 'Little Bara', refers directly to its location adjacent to this vast, flat, and barren desert plain. The settlement serves as a vital stopping point for travelers and livestock transports crossing the inhospitable expanse. Life in Petit Bara is defined by the extreme heat and aridity, with temperatures that regularly rank among the highest in the country. The population consists of members of the Issa clans, who have adapted to the harsh environment. Water is an extremely scarce resource, drawn from deep, often communal, wells. The economy is minimal, focused on supporting transit traffic and limited pastoralism on the desert's fringes. The Grand Bara itself was once an ancient lakebed, and its flat topography makes it a site for occasional land sailing competitions and military exercises.
